Sometimes in business (and in life) when you keep it simple, take small, consistent steps, and focus on the goal at hand, you come to a point where you can make a big leap. You’re able to spring forward, but only if you’re prepared!

Spring Forward

The three topics we’ve already discussed this month will prepare you to take that jump, but you must be able to stay calm and composed when it happens. The most successful people in this world often have one trait in common: They know how to keep their cool under pressure.

Tips

Here are some tips for keeping your composure and ensuring that your big leap isn’t a dive off of a cliff!

1. De-stress

When you take that big leap of faith, things are going to change. They may be fast-paced, and they may get a little hectic. To keep your composure, you’ll need to find an outlet. For some, it’s running. For others, it’s meditating or taking a warm bath with a glass of wine before bed. To avoid extra stress, make sure you dedicate some time at least once or twice a week to getting rid of some unwanted stress.

2. Trust Yourself

No one knows a business better than the person who created it. Brian Grazer, American television producer, is quoted saying,

“You have to trust yourself. Not research. Not testing. Testing helps, but you have to trust your own taste. If your taste says something isn’t any good, don’t let research rationalize that out of its own truth.”

Your instinct is more powerful than you think. When you take a big leap, trust that you know what’s best for your business.

3. Don’t Hesitate

After you’ve learned to trust yourself, this will come easier. Be decisive. Any decision is better than no decision, and chances are, you’re prepared enough to make the right one.

Think about trained public professionals. Police officers and ambulance drivers don’t hesitate before they rush to the scene. When a big decision is upon you, don’t hesitate. Your experience and training has made you equipped to make that decision.

4. Exhibit Confidence

Even when you feel like little red riding hood in a pack of hungry wolves, keep your body language in check. Entrepreneur and motivational speaker Jake Canfield once said, “People who ask confidently get more than those who are hesitant and uncertain.”

If that seems out of the question, just think about the hours, weeks, months, and years of dedication and hard work you’ve put into your discipline. Remind yourself that you do have something special to contribute.

5. Don’t Be Afraid of Failure

We’ve said this before, but that old Wayne Gretzky quote “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” is absolutely timeless and applicable to almost every setting, not just sports. Although your expert decision is often the right one, there will be times when you will fail. Accepting failure is the first step to embracing it. In fact, failure is healthy for us. When we mess up, we learn from our mistakes, and we can spring forward again with new knowledge.

Now spring forward! Believe in yourself because we have the utmost confidence in you. Trust yourself, be confident, don’t hesitate, and don’t forget to de-stress at the end of the day!
